Hello fellow prospectors, I hope everyone is doing well. I'd like to give a special thanks to Keene Engineering for their part in organizing the outings and our monthly meetings, and a special Thanks to PLP for fighting for our rights as prospectors. The San Fernando chapter of the GPAA goes out on monthly outings to GPAA claims and to open prospecting areas around Southern California in the search for GOLD! Many San Fernando Valley Chapter GPAA members are very talented at gold panning, metal detecting, sluicing, dry washing, dredging etc. We have monthly San Fernando Valley Chapter GPAA meetings at Keene Engineering on the third Thursday of each month and we have monthly outings on the fourth weekend of each month. At the meetings, we discuss current issues that affect prospecting and we learn about the great achievements that the P.L.P. has had in reversing some new laws and in fighting for prospectors rights. We also have a 50/50 raffle, and a raffle for prospecting equipment including sometimes gold pans, sluices, hats, tee shirts, GOLD etc I was sent a web site link to a bunch of pictures to do with Follows Camp at the East fork of the San Gabriel mountains, it's amazing to see what Mother nature can do. | The January 2007 Outing was held at Benson in the Mojave Desert, California on January 26th 27th & the 28th. It was very windy the 26th see picture 6 , Pat Keene showing some new members how to work the bedrock see picture 20 , Jay found a nugget with his Mine lab metal detector along with other members with there metal detectors and drywashers. See picture 19 with Scott and his Coco lab heading back to camp. See picture 5 with Ivan holding three bottles meted together by the camp fire. The February 2007 Outing was held at Benson in the Mojave Desert, California on February 23rd & the 24th &25th. The weather was a bit cold on the 23rd but the weather was allot wormer the rest of the weekend. It was nice to see some new prospectors. See picture 4 Pat Keene stretching a melting bottle from the fire pit to about six feet long. See picture19 along with metal detecting and dry washing there were a couple of dirt bike riders getting some laps in around the camp site. See picture 43, Bob working with his home made drywasher. The March 2007 Outing was held at Benson in the Mojave Desert, California on March 23rd, 24th & the 25th. The wind was a lot calmer than January's outing. The April 2007 Outing was held at Stanton, Arizona April 23rd through the 28th. This trip consisted of many LDMA/GPAA members and their guests. We would like to give a special thanks to Pat, Wayne, Ellie and all the staff for all that they did from putting the outing together to catering to all our needs. This was my first time to Stanton and it's one I wont forget for a long time especially all the great new friends I met and the history of the town. See picture 17 the group getting the run down for the week. No one found any nuggets on the pushes that I know of See picture 90, however there was some nuggets found at various other locations. See picture 132 a few nuggets, also see picture 131 a 2.9 penny weight nugget that Jim found with his Mine Lab Detector. There were several others that found some gold Dry Washing, See picture 144. See picture 122 Guy's new Quad welcome to the Quad squad Guy. See picture 105 Hercules, Hercules. See picture 124 life doesn't get any better then that, Oh wait maybe it does See picture 47. The May 2007 Outing was held at San Gabriel River in Azusa, California on May 18th, 19th, &20th. See picture 24 the river was lower than usual but every one was able to use there prospecting equipment from panning to dredging and high banking to metal detecting. See picture 2 some prospector's waiting patiently for Pat Keene to say come and get it. See picture 19 Bernie one of the most knowledgeable and friendly prospector you'll ever meet at the east fork. See picture 39 a group of long horned sheep that crossed my path while metal detecting. See picture 41 Gene's Eastfork 7.5 penny weight nugget, I could tell you but I'd Have to, well you know the rest. See picture 46 a young prospector getting that gold. The June 2007 Outing was held at the San Gabriel River in Azusa, California. on June 29th,30th and July 1st.Also the PLP Canyon Sweep was held on June 9th. PLP would like to give a special thanks to all the volunteers that had taken there personal time to help keep the San Gabriel Mountains trash free. Also a Special thanks to all the Venders, Businesses and folks that donated Food, Gifts, Drinks, Money and so many other items to make this years Sweep A big success. Now to the outing, I'd like to welcome the new prospectors that joined our group and hope they were learn from the variety of mining to including sluicing, gold panning, metal detecting, Dry Washing, high banking and of course a lot of dredgers. The San Fernando Valley Chapter GPAA July 2007 Outing was held at the San Gabriel River in Azusa, California. . The weather was great the water was just right. There were a few new prospectors that attended our outing that we would like to welcome and hope to see them on our future meetings and outings. Joey from the Outdoor Channel See picture 5 (Joey is on the left), attended our outing on Saturday and did some filming of the prospectors using a variety of mining equipment used to recover gold, including panning, sluicing, dredging, metal detecting and high banking. See picture 10 some dredgers doing a clean up to see how they did in that location. See picture 12 two visitors Phil on the left and Martin on the right from Massachusetts trying their luck in getting some California gold. See picture 17 Ivan setting up his High Banker/Dredge combo machine. See picture 21 Bill using his metal detector in hopes of finding a big nugget. See picture 24 Gene using one of his concentrate clean up machine to recover the gold from the concentrates. Well I'd like to give Pat Keene a big thanks again for all he does from informing us on all aspects of prospecting to hosting our meetings and outings. I'd like to also say thanks to Joey for visiting our outing and we can't wait to see the final outcome on the Outdoor Channel. San Fernando Valley Chapter GPAA October 2007 Outing was held at Benson in the Mojave Desert the weather was great. The potluck Saturday night was great with all the variety of dishes and desserts. Thanks to all that brought some firewood for the fire pit. Some prospectors used metal detectors to find their gold while others used drywashers. I'd like to welcome one our newest four legged members Sadie Picture 1. See Picture 2, Tony holding the moon. See picture 6, Bob checking out some Indian drawings. See picture 19, a interesting rock formation. See picture 26, Gene doing a threshold balance before starting his nugget hunt. See picture 34, Bob holding a Tarantula. See pictures 36, and 37, a couple of items form from the 1930's one being a claim marker and the other a Air Guard metal also from the 1930's. See picture 38, some gold found by Dean using a drywasher. See picture 52 a few of the guys enjoying some great food after a hard day prospecting. A big thanks goes out to Pat Keene, and others for taking the time to teach us the skills of finding that yellow stuff we like to call GOLD. Due to the December Holliday's The San Fernando Valley Chapter GPAA Will not be having a outing this month. However there will be a Christmas meeting on December 21st at 7:00pm at Keene Engineering. Please bring a wrapped gift around $10.00 for the raffle, Also bring some kind goody for the potluck. |
